Terms, privacy & your rights

Keymate connects people looking for rooms and roommates in Ireland. Here's how we handle your data and what you agree to.

Terms of Service

Last updated: 15 September 2026 · Operated by Keymate (mykeymate.com)

1. What Keymate is

Keymate is a platform that helps people find rooms, apartments and compatible roommates. We are a venue for listings and introductions — we are not a landlord, letting agent, or party to any tenancy agreement between members.

These terms are the end-user licence agreement (EULA) for the Keymate app and website. You must accept them before you create an account or log in.

2. Who can use it

You must be 18 or older and able to enter a legally binding agreement. You agree to provide accurate information.

3. Listings & conduct

  • Listings must be real, accurate, and for places you're entitled to advertise.
  • No discrimination contrary to the Equal Status Acts, no harassment, no scams.
  • Never request or send a deposit before an in-person viewing.
  • Keep communication and payments inside Keymate where possible.
Keymate has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users.

Offensive, hateful, sexual, threatening or abusive content is not allowed in listings, profiles or messages. An automatic filter blocks the worst of it, and anyone can report content or a person and block any user at any time. We review every report within 24 hours, remove the offending content and ban the account that posted it.

4. Fees & payments

Browsing and messaging are free during launch. Any future paid features (e.g. boosted listings) will be shown clearly before you pay, and are handled by a secure third-party payment provider (such as Stripe) — we never see or store your full card details.

5. Liability

Keymate does not verify the identity of members or check listings, and is not a party to any agreement between members. We cannot guarantee any listing, person or tenancy and are not responsible for any agreement, payment or loss. You are responsible for your own viewings, contracts and payments — always meet in person and never pay before you have seen the room. Keymate is provided "as is" to the extent permitted by Irish law.

6. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

7. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a material change we'll let you know, and continuing to use Keymate after an update means you accept the revised terms.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Irish courts.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 July 2026 · Data controller: Keymate

What we collect

  • Account data — name, email, age, nationality, password.
  • Profile & lifestyle — budget, city, habits and preferences you enter for matching.
  • Usage — pages viewed, searches, messages, device and approximate location.

Why we use it

To run the service, match you with compatible rooms and people, keep the community safe, and improve Keymate.

Our legal bases (GDPR)

  • Contract — to create your account and provide the service you signed up for.
  • Consent — for the optional analytics cookie; you can withdraw it at any time in Settings.
  • Legitimate interest — to keep the platform safe, prevent fraud and improve the product.
  • Legal obligation — where the law requires us to keep or disclose certain data.

Who we share it with

Only with service providers who help us operate (hosting, email, payments). We never sell your personal data. Your contact details stay masked from other members until you choose to share them.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account is active, and a limited period afterwards as required by law. You can delete your account and data at any time.

International transfers

Keymate is operated from Ireland and your data is primarily processed within the EU/EEA. Where a service provider processes data outside the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Cookie Policy

What we use

  • Essential — sign-in, security and basic functionality. Always on.
  • Preferences — remember your theme, city and filters.
  • Analytics — anonymous usage stats to improve the product (only with your consent).
  • Maps — off until you ask for them. See below.
  • Marketing — reserved for future use and switched off by default. We don't run advertising trackers today.

Maps & third parties

Where we show a map, it is served by OpenStreetMap/CARTO (map tiles) and unpkg.com (the Leaflet map library). Loading a map means your browser connects to those services directly, which shares your IP address and browser details with them — we can't see or control what they log.

Because of that, maps do not load on their own. You'll see a placeholder with a Load map button, and nothing is requested from those services until you press it. Your choice is remembered on your own device only; clearing your browser's site data for Keymate turns maps off again.

Your choice

Two cookies are strictly necessary and always set: one keeps you signed in, the other protects the social login while it happens. We also use Google Analytics to see how many people visit — that one is optional, and it only runs if you accept it. On your first visit you can accept or decline, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings. Declining costs you nothing: the site works exactly the same. There are no advertising cookies. The other choice on this page is the map above: it loads nothing until you press Load map, and that preference stays on your own device.

Community guidelines

The house rules that keep Keymate safe for everyone

Keymate only works if people trust each other. By using it you agree to:

✅ Do

  • Be honest — real name, real photos, real listings.
  • Reply respectfully, even when it's not a match.
  • View a place in person (or on a live video call) before paying anything.
  • Report anything that feels off — we act on every report.

🚫 Don't

  • No scams. Never ask for or send a deposit before a viewing.
  • No discrimination. Rejecting someone based on race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or family status breaks Irish equality law and our rules.
  • No harassment, hate speech, or sharing others' private details.
  • No fake or duplicate listings, and no advertising places you can't rent.
  • No taking contact off-platform just to dodge our safety tools.

What happens if you break the rules

Keymate has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users.

We act on every report within 24 hours: the offending content is removed and the account that posted it is banned.

Depending on severity: a warning, listing removal, or a permanent ban. Serious cases (fraud) are reported to An Garda Síochána.

By continuing to use Keymate you confirm you've read and accept these guidelines.

GDPR & your rights

Under EU/Irish data protection law

As Keymate operates in Ireland, you have full rights under the GDPR:

  • Access — get a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — correct anything inaccurate.
  • Erasure — delete your account and data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Portability — export your data in a common format.
  • Object / restrict — limit how we process your data.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting past processing.

How to exercise them

Email [email protected] — we respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy, you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).

Delete your account

Keymate (mykeymate.com) — app and website

You can delete your Keymate account yourself, at any time. You do not need to ask us.

In the Keymate app

  • Open the app and go to "Profile".
  • Tap "Settings".
  • Tap "Delete my account".
  • Type your password to confirm. If you signed in with Google or Apple, type DELETE instead.

On the website

  • Sign in at mykeymate.com.
  • Open "Settings".
  • Choose "Delete my account" and confirm the same way.

What is deleted

Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. We erase:

  • your account and login details (name, email, password);
  • your profile: age, nationality, city, occupation, languages, budget and living preferences;
  • your profile photo and every photo on your listings — removed from our servers, not only hidden;
  • your listings and your saved and interested lists;
  • your conversations and the messages you sent.

What we keep, and for how long

  • Nothing that identifies you stays in the app after deletion.
  • Encrypted server backups roll over within 14 days, after which the deleted data is gone from them too.
  • If we had to act on a report of abuse, we keep the record of that decision (not your profile) for as long as Irish law requires us to.
  • Analytics figures are counted without your name or email and cannot be traced back to you.

Cannot get into your account? Write to [email protected] from the email address on the account and we will delete it for you within 30 days.
